4 Things You Need to Do Before a Roof Installation

Having a new residential roofing system installed is a pretty big endeavor. As such, you would want to keep the disruption to your daily routine at a minimum. To help you prepare for the big day, here are a few things that you absolutely need to do to ensure that the installation goes as smoothly as possible.

1. Prepare Pets and Small Children

Replacing your roof can be a very noisy and messy job. Keep your pets indoors, and make sure they have access to their crate and comforting toys. You should also arrange for infants and toddlers to be someplace else.

2. Clear Your Vehicles From the Driveway or Garage

The night before the installation team arrives, you need to park your cars a safe distance away from the work area. We don’t recommend that you wait until the morning of the installation itself as your car might get trapped as the supplier and workers come to drop off the materials. Leaving your car in the garage is also not ideal as shingle granules and nails might drop through the roof as the roofers work.

3. Protect Your Plants

Some types of plants can be vulnerable to construction debris. Of course, you wouldn’t want your prized rose bush damaged by your roofing contractor so be sure to mark out any especially valuable plants and trees with bright-colored tape. You can also place netting or a tarp to cover flower beds and fragile plants.

4. Remove Wall Décor

The vibrations from hammering can knock wall decorations and other knick-knacks off your walls, so take the time to remove them before the work begins. Be especially mindful of loose shelving, mirrors and picture frames on the top floor.
