Roof Worries: Should You Repair or Replace It?

Your home’s roof is arguably the most important fixture of your house. It’s the one thing that shelters you from the elements and keeps you comfortably dry. So when the roof experiences a problem, there’s always a split decision between getting a roof repair or replacement.

So when is a roofing project a simple re-roof or a complete replacement? A1 Roofing and Construction discusses each option.

Re-Roof and Replace: What’s the Difference?

The two options may seem similar, but they’re actually talking about different things. Re-roofing, as its name suggests, simply replaces the worn out material of the roof. Replacement is the complete removal of the roof for a new one.

Roof Material

Your current roofing material contributes toward your final decision. Although asphalt shingles are sturdy and durable in their own right, they’re not as strong as metal roofing. You can do a quick survey of your roof and determine what material it’s made of.

Replace or Revitalize?

As an experienced roofing contractor, we base our suggestion whether to replace or revitalize on the actual age of the roof. The average lifespan of a roof is actually between 20 to 25 years. Of course, we also consider the actual state of the roof itself. If your roofing simply needs some minor repairs and tweaks, then re-roofing is what we’ll do. If the long-term costs outweigh the short term solution though, that’s when we recommend replacing your roof.

Both re-roofing and replacement require considerable upfront investment, so it’s important that you decide what’s best for your home in the long-term. When you work with us, we make it a point to sit down with you and talk about your roofing options. Give us a call at (401) 265-1019 for more information on our services.
